How to choose a floor lamp

A floor lamp lights a reading corner, supplements a weak ceiling light or creates a soft atmosphere in a living room. A few guidelines to choose the right model for each room. To go further, our guide to layered lighting explains how to combine it with the rest of your lighting.

What height of floor lamp should I choose?

Most floor lamps measure between 150 and 180 cm. Next to a sofa or armchair, the bottom of the shade should be roughly at eye level when seated, to light without dazzling. With a low ceiling, choose a slim model or a globe that diffuses light upwards.

Where should an arc floor lamp go?

An arc floor lamp lights the middle of a living room or a coffee table without a ceiling light point. Place its base next to the sofa and keep enough height under the shade to walk past without ducking. Check the reach of the arc on the product page: it should match the distance between the base and the area to be lit.

Which floor lamp for reading?

A reading lamp, with an adjustable head or an articulated arm, directs light onto the book without lighting the whole room. Place it beside or slightly behind the armchair. A warm 2700 to 3000 K light remains the most comfortable for reading in the evening.

Which floor lamp for soft light?

A fabric, pleated paper or woven rattan shade filters the light and diffuses it all around: the ideal choice for a living room or bedroom. LED floor lamps with graphic lines play more of a decorative role, with indirect light. For a natural feel, discover our rattan lighting.

Can a floor lamp be used outdoors?

Only if it is designed for it: an outdoor floor lamp is waterproof (IP44 minimum, IP65 for an exposed garden) and UV resistant. Our stainless steel models can be installed along a path or in a garden, and the solar rattan floor lamp charges in the sun, with no cable.
